Twenty-five illegal immigrants rescued off Sfax (Defence)

Twenty-five illegal immigrants were rescued by Coast Guards on Wednesday at dawn some 150km off Sfax, as they were drowning following a breakdown in their boat and the deterioration of weather conditions.

The immigrants are of different nationalities, including 1 Tunisian, 7 Libyans, 1 Moroccan, 3 Egyptians, 5 Sudanese, 7 Bengalis and 1 Chadian, according to the Defence Ministry.

They said that they had left the Zouara coasts on Sunday night for the Italian coasts.

The 25 persons on board of the boat had all been evacuated to the Sfax main naval base to be handed over to security units, the same source added.
