Accra: Two construction workers have been sentenced to three years in prison each for stealing 15 boxes of floor tiles valued at GHC4,000. Abdul Ganuie, 28, a mason, and Godwin Akpai, 31, a carpenter, were found guilty by the Adenta Circuit Court after a full trial.
According to Ghana News Agency, the court, presided over by Mrs. Sarah Nyakoa Nkansa, commenced hearing the case in March 2025. The duo faced charges of conspiracy to commit crime, specifically stealing, and the act of stealing itself. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, detailed that the complainant, Frank Hadzi, who works as a foreman at a construction firm and resides in Accra, reported the theft.
The prosecution explained that on March 12, 2025, around 3:00 pm, the accused hired a Hyundai Getz, with registration number GW-6880-22, to transport the stolen tiles from the company’s warehouse at Adenta Aviation. A vigilant worker at the site noticed the suspicious activity and raised an alarm, leading to their arrest. During interrogation, Ganuie and Akpai confessed they intended to sell the tiles at Abossey Okai, which they later admitted to in their investigation caution statement.
The court’s decision to sentence the duo to three years of hard labor underscores the gravity of their crime and serves as a deterrent to similar offenses.
