U-20 WAFU Zone B: Ghana Advances to Semifinals After Draw Against Togo

Lome: Ghana's men's U20 team, the Black Satellites, has advanced to the semifinals of the U-20 WAFU B Championship following a 1-1 draw against host nation Togo. The result, achieved in the final group match at the Stade Municipal, secured Ghana's position at the top of Group A. According to Ghana News Agency, Jerry Afriyie, Ghana's leading scorer, opened the scoring in the first half, bringing his total to three goals in the tournament. Togo's Bourgeous Bouraima equalized in the second half, but the draw was sufficient for Ghana to finish first in their group with five points from three games. Meanwhile, Niger claimed second place after a 1-0 victory over Benin in the other group match. Ghana now awaits their semifinal opponent, which could be Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, or Nigeria, all of whom are competing for a place in the final four from Group B. The Black Satellites aim to secure a spot in the finals, which would qualify them for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations. This is particularly significant a s they missed the previous edition in Egypt. The 2025 U20 AFCON will also serve as the African qualification tournament for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, with the top four teams securing automatic qualification.
