WINNEBA: The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Co-operative Credit Union has inaugurated its new Head Office Block in Winneba as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing mission to offer personalized and competitive banking services. The event also highlighted the union's commitment to enhancing its physical presence, with renovations in its Senya Bereku and Cape Coast branches. According to Ghana News Agency, the inauguration was led by Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice Chancellor of UEW, who commended the union's Directors, Management, and staff for their dedication, which has driven the institution's growth. He encouraged the new board members to build on the achievements of their predecessors to sustain the credit union's status as one of the largest in the Central Region and sixth largest in Ghana by asset size. The unveiling of the new facilities coincided with the 2023 Annual General Meeting, where Prof. Mitchual reflected on the union's imp ressive growth since its inception in 1994. Starting with just 28 members, the union now boasts 22,369 members with substantial financial assets. He emphasized the university's ongoing support and urged members to increase their shares to secure higher dividends and reinforce the union's financial position. Dr. Bernard Bingab, the outgoing chairman of the Board of Directors, reported on the year's projects, including the Virtual Branch designed for remote members, and the implementation of a USSD system to enhance banking convenience. Despite economic challenges, the union achieved a 39.49% increase in member savings in 2023, demonstrating its robust financial health. Mrs. Christian Kilson, CEO of the union, acknowledged the past year's challenges, attributed to macroeconomic factors like the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme and inflation. However, the introduction of new technology initiatives was aimed at improving operational efficiency and member service delivery. The event concluded with the introduct ion and inauguration of the new Board, chaired by Mr. Charles Coffie, and the Supervisory Committee, signaling a new chapter in the union's governance.
