Accra: The Public Affairs Directorate of the University of Ghana (UG) recently visited Mr. Samuel Osei-Frempong, the News Editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), to reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two institutions and discuss contemporary issues.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, stated that the visit aligned with UG’s strategic priority of engagements and partnerships, launched on July 17, 2024. Recognizing GNA as a key partner, the visit aimed to appreciate the Agency’s consistent support and presence at university events.
The delegation, including Pascaline Songsore, Senior Assistant Registrar, Victoria Anim, Assistant Registrar, and Pamela Korsah, Senior Administrative Assistant, expressed gratitude for GNA’s loyalty and commitment. Dr. Ameyaw-Buronyah emphasized the importance of media collaboration in promoting the university’s mission and values.
Mr. Osei-Frempong commended the University of Ghana for its contributions to national development, highlighting GNA’s role in promoting state institutions. He emphasized the Agency’s commitment to responsible journalism, avoiding sensationalism, and protecting the integrity of national institutions like UG.
The News Editor further stressed the significance of UG in shaping the future of Ghana and expressed eagerness to collaborate on developmental and societal issues. He showed particular interest in research related to public health and the impact of lifestyle choices on health.
UG’s strategic plan for 2024-2029 focuses on transformative student experiences, impactful research, faculty and staff commitment, engagement and partnership, and sustainable resource mobilization. The University also hosts an annual open day event, providing opportunities for prospective students and the public to explore its campuses and academic offerings.
