Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Noureddine Tabboubi on Thursday affirmed that the trade union does not seek to position itself on the political scene.

Its real mission is to tell the truth and defend the country’s achievements, he pointed out.

Tabboubi explained at the opening of the congress of the general federation of supervisors and general supervisors held in Hammamet, that the UGTT has a political maturity and invests in human and trade union competences.

Its goal, he added, is to strengthen the Union and its ability to negotiate and defend the files in hand.

The Secretary General further asserted that the UGTT opts for dialogue and negotiations on social issues despite the publication of the Circular No. 20, underlining that the situation of workers requires an intervention to defend their social and economic rights.
