“UGTT is open to reforms provided they do not affect Tunisians’ purchasing power” (Taboubi)

Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Noureddine Taboubi said at his meeting with ambassador of the United Kingdom in Tunis Helen Winterton the labour organisation is open to reforms provided «they do not affect the purchasing power of Tunisians.»

Taboubi was quoted in a UGTT statement as stressing the labour organisation is committed to consolidating the democratic process on the basis of a purely Tunisian, while calling its social and economic partners to support Tunisia.

For her part, the UK ambassador welcomed the role played by the UGTT during all stages of building the Tunisian state, expressing her consideration for the labour organisation that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Previously, Taboubi had met Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Tunisia Christophe de Bassompierre who stressed the importance of supporting Tunisia in its democratic transition and help it to get out of the difficult socio-economic and political situation through its partners.
