UGTT: “Negotiations in private sector and crisis of social funds to top priorities” (Taboubi)

Noureddine Taboubi, new Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), said that the issues of social negotiations in the private sector, the crisis of the social funds, health and education policies will top priorities of the new leadership of the trade union.

In his first statement to the press after the plebiscite obtained by the new executive bureau at the end of the UGTT congress, Tabboubi said that “the expectations of workers in the private sector have lasted too long and it is important to cooperate with the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), partner of the UGTT, to find an agreement on wage increases through a serious dialogue while taking into account the conditions of companies, the deterioration of purchasing power and the low level of wages in this sector “.

He also said that the central trade union “will work to find a solution to the crisis of the social funds, especially since it had carried out a study on this subject”.

“The new political bureau will also take interest in the issues of education and educational policies, particularly as regards the contents and methodologies for which the UGTT has presented proposals prepared by the sectoral structures,” he added.

Tabboubi also reiterated the concern of the central trade union to safeguard public enterprises, to give more interest to the health sector which, he said, faces major problems, besides the revision of the law on public service and the law 78-85 of the public sector.

“The next step will be legislative and the UGTT will balance its social and national role while remaining an umbrella for all and the loud voice of the oppressed and the unemployed,” stressed the new Trade Union leader who ensured the commitment of the new executive bureau to the content of all congressional motions.

The list of Trade Union Unity, led by Noureddine Taboubi, won all the seats of the new executive bureau of the Tunisian General Labour Union with a big lead on the list of Kacem Afia.
