UGTT not in conflict with government (Noureddine Tabboubi)

(TAP) The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), is not in conflict with the government, said Friday Noureddine Tabboubi, Secretary- General of the union, stating that the only problem is the current situation of the country described as difficult according to the figures and indices published by international authorities.

Tabboubi added, at the opening in Hammamet, of the work of the 25th congress of the General Federation of Building and Wood (FGBB), in reaction to the results of the municipal elections, that the low participation in municipal elections especially among young people, reflects a lack of sense of belonging to this homeland. He called on politicians to play a leadership role.

The building and wood sector registered 3,329 accidents in 2016, said Tabboubi, noting that such a figure reflects a need to give greater importance to protection, prevention and safety at work for employees in this sector which contributes nearly 14 pc of GDP.

This sector, Tabboubi further emphasised, contributes to the revival of the economic development process, which encourages greater emphasis on safety at work and further vocational training.

Tunisia needs a specialised workforce, in the various sectors including building, agriculture and textiles, added Tabboubi.
