UGTT supports clothing and shoe merchants

The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Wednesday, expressed its support to clothing and shoe merchants who went on strike Tuesday to demand banning street vending in front of their shops.

In a statement, The UGTT called on the authorities to take the necessary measures to counter tax evasion and parallel trade and to provide spaces for street vendors.

The union further called on all stakeholders to speed up the implementation of a national participatory strategy to integrate the informal economy into the national economy and to counter uncontrolled imports of shoes and textile.

The union also proposed to launch a national campaign to encourage domestic consumption.
