Deputy Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Mohamed Ali Boughdiri said on Wednesday that the labour organisation will lose its influence soon because of the latest acts perpetrated by a group of trade union leaders who violated the standards of democracy and the statute of the Union.
Speaking to reporters on the 25th Congress of the Union in Sfax, Boughdiri added that these leaders have allowed themselves to assume the responsibility within the Executive Board by running again in violation of the internal rules.
The presence, at the congress among the group defending the law of the UGTT while wearing a black armband, is a form of expressing grief and perplexity over this discrepancy, Boughdiri added.
He called on participants in the congress to ensure the necessary moderation and to take forward-looking steps in the interest of the UGTT.
