British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly underlined the UK’s determination to strengthen cooperation with Tunisia in the education sector.
Visiting the headquarters of the second chance school “Habib Bourguiba”, in Bab El Khadhra (Tunis) Tuesday, Cleverly took note of this pilot experience which contributes to the fight against school dropout, carried out in the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the UK Embassy in Tunisia.
Cleverly highlighted, in a statement to the media, the UK’s readiness to support Tunisia in its efforts towards democracy in addition to the difficulties encountered due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister of Education Fathi Slaouti underlined the objective of the ministry to generalise the experience of the second chance school to welcome tens of thousands of young people who stop their studies every year to help them resume them or opt for the vocational training system or prepare them for insertion in the job market.
The Ministry of Education is working to find the necessary funding to create this educational institution in each governorate, he said. The second chance school has an educational and training framework including social experts and psychologists and supervisors.
It is an institution that promotes orientation for students who have stopped their studies. Pupils are accompanied and coached to help them identify their educational needs. An academic training programme is planned for 9 months in various specialities including languages, mathematics and physics.
