UN confident in Tunisia’s ability to complete its reform process as soon as possible

Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi stressed that the measures taken by President of the Republic Kais Saied are part of a rectification process with the aim of establishing a real democracy based on the sovereignty of the law and which responds to the will of the people and their aspirations.

The formation of a new government was the first step towards achieving these goals. A step that will be consolidated by the announcement of the guidelines for the coming period, he said during his meeting Friday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

Quoted in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerandi stressed the attachment of Tunisia to its international commitments on rights and freedoms and its concern to consolidate its achievements in this field.

For his part, the UN official said understand the presidential decisions, expressing confidence in the ability of Tunisia to complete its reform process as soon as possible and to meet the challenges of the stage following the example of what has been achieved in its fight against the pandemic.

On another level, Rosemary DiCarlo highlighted the role of Tunisia in the Security Council and the efforts made to bring together the views of member states and consolidate the foundations of peace and security in the world.

She praised the remarkable contribution of Tunisia to peacekeeping missions in the world and welcomed the proposal, made by Jerandi, to establish a regional training centre for peacekeeping operations in Tunis.

The two sides also discussed the results of the international conference to support stability in Libya held Thursday in Tripoli which is a new step towards a comprehensive political settlement in this brotherly country, the same source said.
