Unemployed Woman Sentenced for Theft in Tarkwa

Tarkwa: The Tarkwa District Court One has sentenced Gifty Awuah, an unemployed woman, to two months imprisonment with hard labor for stealing GHS1,200 and a mobile phone valued at GHS1,100. Awuah pleaded guilty and was convicted on her own plea.

According to Ghana News Agency, Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh prosecuted the case in the court presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah. The complainant, Elizabeth Badu, is also unemployed and resides in Wassa Agona, while Awuah lives in Dompim Pepesa, both locations within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

On November 9, 2924, at approximately 1400 hours, Awuah visited the complainant’s house seeking to meet Nana Nkansah, Badu’s husband. When informed that he was unavailable, Awuah pretended to leave but instead returned, swiftly entered Badu’s room, and stole the cash and mobile phone before departing.

Sergeant Assan-Donkoh further informed the court that Awuah was apprehended on November 11, 2024. During police investigations, she confessed to the crime in her caution statement.
