UNFT calls for encouraging women’s candidacy for post of mayor

(TAP) The National Union of Tunisian Women (French: UNFT) called on all the various stakeholders (independent and party lists) who have won the 2018 municipal elections, to encourage women’s candidacy for the post of municipality mayor, to confirm their capacity to manage local affairs at best.

In a press release on Friday, the UNFT also called for behaving with female candidates for the post of a municipality mayor as citizens exercising their right and to take into consideration the criteria of competence and ability to manage.

The UNFT recalled women’s large participation in the municipal elections as candidates with over 30% as heads of lists or voters in spite of the poor youth turnout rate.
