“Unified Africa,” slogan of 2023 African Beach Games

The official slogan and logo of the 2023 African Beach Games scheduled for June 23-30 in Hammamet, were revealed on Wednesday in Tunis by the Games Organising Committee. With the slogan “Unified Africa,” the committee reaffirms the fundamental principles and goals of this 2nd edition of the games, which will coincide with the observance of the World Olympic Day on June 23. “For eight days, Hammamet will become the epicentre of the African continent and all eyes will be on our flagship event, the African Beach Games,” stated head of the organising committee and President of the Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT) Mehrez Bousayène at a press conference. Bousayène announced the participation of 54 African nations against 42 during the first edition in Cape Verde. “The 2023 edition will be open to the 54 member countries of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA),” he said, indicating that over 1,000 athletes (1,400 accredited participants) are expected at the Hammamet edition. Thirteen sports disciplines will enliven the event including 4 team sports (Beach Volleyball, Beach Handball, 3×3 Basketball and Beach Soccer), in addition to individual disciplines (Open Water Swimming, Ocean Racing (Kayak), Karate Kata, Wushu Kung-Fu, Sea Rowing, Air Badminton, Teqball, Beach Wrestling, Beach Tennis) and two non-competitive demonstration disciplines, namely Paddle and Fencing, he specified. A large-scale sports, cultural and recreational programme will run alongside this continental sporting event, in close collaboration with the Culture Ministry, Bousayène added. Besides, for ecological reasons, the organising comittee has chosen to make it a “green” event without gas emissions, by encouraging traditional transport as horse-drawn carriages on site and by banning plastic use. The press conference was attended by ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf.
