US businessmen restate readiness to further invest in Tunisia

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed Wednesday met in Washington with President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Thomas J. Donohue.

Chahed gave an overview of the political, economic and security situation in Tunisia, in the presence of several US and Tunisian businessmen. The investment climate has improved over the last months and the economic growth rate is expected to reach 2.5 % by late 2017, he highlighted.

The Prime Minister said Tunisia is facing a challenging geographical environment and spoke particularly about the impact of the Libyan crisis on the national economy.

In this connection, Chahed said Tunisia “embarked on large-scale reforms that focused on the financial sector and investment, along with the anti-corruption campaign that is poised to open up new horizons for foreign investors.”

“Tunisia- US relations are still below expectations, especially as Tunisia is one of the most competitive countries in the region if not the most competitive,” he underlined.

US businessmen said they are ready to further invest in Tunisia.

Moreover, the Prime Minister lectured at the headquarters of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and met with chief operating officer Elizabeth Dibble.
