The USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) destroyer, on Monday, docked in Goulette, Tunis and will stay there for few days.

This is the USS Arleigh Burke’s first visit to Tunisia. In fact, it is the first of a set of visits scheduled by the U.S. Navy in the region.

The vessel has a crew of 300.

The aim of our visit is to review with the Tunisian authorities co-operation between Tunisian and U.S. navies in the military field and to promote exchange between experts from both countries, Commander Errol A. Robinson said.

Equipped with heavy weapons, a helipad and two lifeboats, the vessel was launched for the first time in 1991 in Virginia, U.S.A.

The vessel had participated in 2014 in the international coalition’s first set of air attacks against Syria, according to the National Museum of the U.S. Navy’s official website.
