UTAP calls for investigating causes of Jendouba and Bizerte fires (UTAP)

The Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP), Tuesday, called for initiating an investigation to identify the causes behind the fires that have damaged forests and mountainous regions in Jendouba and Bizerte governorates over the past days.

The union recommended in a press release to devise a national fire prevention strategy and to provide regions bordering forests with the necessary financial and logistical means to help them intervene promptly in the event of a disaster.

A wave of fires has broken out in forests in Jendouba (more than 14 fires broke out on July 29), south Bizerte, Tinja and Sejnane (July 31).

The UTAP expressed regret over the major material damage recorded, notably in the forest harvest and fodder resources of the local residents, stressing the need to compensate them as soon as possible.
