UTICA Congress: voting starts

The election of new executive board members of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) began on Wednesday afternoon at the organisation’s headquarters in Tunis, after the adoption of the moral and financial reports and the close of the general debate, noted a TAP reporter.

Some 1,588 delegates from 2,180 congress members, i.e. a turnout of 72.84%, meaning the quorum is there, will vote, said congress spokesperson Bechir Boujday.

The final number of candidates reached 91 out of a total of 122 who submitted their candidacy and after the withdrawal of 14 candidates including outgoing president Wided Bouchamaoui and the rejection of applications of 17 members who do not meet the required conditions, said Boujday.

Women’s participation remained low, with only 7 women candidates, he said.

The UTICA executive board will have 31 members, including the 5 federation representatives who access the office automatically, namely the president of the federation of mechanical industries Bechir Boujday, the president of the federation of paper and publishing Naceur Jeljli, those of the transport federation Salem Nabgha, the federation of ICT Kaies Sellami and the federation of Chemistry Lotfi Hamrouni.
