Value of olive oil exports jumps by 157.53%, late March 2018

The value of olive oil exports has increased by 157.5% since the beginning of the 2017/2018 season and until 31 March 2018, while the average export price has increased by 15%, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries said Monday in a statement.

According to the Agriculture Department, the quantities of olive oil exported reached 110,210 tonnes, for a value of 1 128 million dinars (MD), against 49,076 tonnes, for a value of 438 million dinars, from the same period of the past campaign.

The quantities exported of packaged olive oil reached 7,400 tonnes, compared to 6,561 tonnes during the same period of the previous season, an increase of 13% in quantity and 32% in value.

The export markets for packaged olive oil are divided between Canada (28%), France (26%), the United States (10%), Saudi Arabia (8%), Brazil (7%).

The quantities of olive oil exported in bulk amounted to 102, 809 tonnes, compared to 42, 483 tonnes in the same period of the previous season, an increase of 142% in quantity and 182% in value.

Spain leads the export markets for Tunisian olive oil in bulk, with 35% of the quantities sold, followed by Italy (34%), the United States (17%), France, Morocco, Portugal (4%), Saudi Arabia and Seychelles (1%).
