Volta NRSA Seizes 60 Vehicles, Motorcycles for Breaching Safety Regulations

Accra: The Volta Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has taken action by seizing 60 vehicles and motorcycles for violations of road safety regulations.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, the Volta Regional Head of the NRSA, revealed that the seizures occurred during a two-day joint road safety enforcement exercise. This operation was conducted in collaboration with the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Ho, the regional capital.

In an interview, Madam Ayer specified that the confiscated vehicles included 10 private and commercial cars as well as 50 rickshaws (Pragya), motorcycles (Okada), and tricycles (Aboboyaa). The enforcement took place between June 25 and July 26, 2025, at various locations including the market top, GN Bank premises, Trafalgar Road, Royal Hospital enclave, and the Ho Zongo community.

Madam Ayer emphasized that the exercise aimed to address common violations among road users and improve adherence to road safety standards. She reiterated the commitment of the NRSA and its partners to ensure compliance with road safety regulations and standards among drivers and riders. The enforcement initiative is set to expand to other districts and municipalities within the region.

Madam Ayer identified several violations, such as driving or riding without a valid license, unlicensed or underage riders, vehicles without number plates, unregistered motorcycles and tricycles, non-approved lighting systems, and the absence of essential safety equipment like spare tires, fire extinguishers, and warning triangles.

Offenders were instructed to renew or obtain valid driving licenses, roadworthy certificates, and insurance within the two-day grace period. Those who failed to comply were arraigned in court. Madam Ayer also noted that the NRSA has intensified public education on road safety regulations, leaving offenders with no excuse for non-compliance.
