Accra: The Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alpha Anas Hamidu, has called on authorities to expedite the completion of the Islamic Senior High School project in the region to ensure Muslim children have access to quality secondary education. His appeal was made during the Eid-al-Fitr celebration in Ho, where he stressed the importance of unity and collective efforts to advance the long-delayed educational initiative.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief Imam highlighted that the project was launched to address the educational gap faced by Muslim children in the region. However, progress has been hindered due to insufficient support. In his address, the Chief Imam emphasized the significance of peace, harmony, and togetherness as essential components for development.
He encouraged the Muslim community in the Volta Region to live peacefully with others, as peace is crucial for progress. Additionally, he urged leaders and stakeholders to prioritize the completion of stalled projects, such as the Islamic Senior High School, to benefit the community.
Alhaji Hamidu also brought attention to the incomplete construction of a six-classroom block for the Nureeya Islamic Basic School. He appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Volta Regional Minister, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central to provide the necessary support for completing school infrastructure.
‘As we begin a new year after Ramadan, we are calling on our leaders-our MCE the new one, the regional minister, our MP-to come and assist us in completing these important projects. We have all the necessary documents for the Islamic Senior High School, and everything is ready. Now, we need the government and relevant authorities to step in and support us,’ he pleaded.
In response, the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Mr. Richmond Kofi Kposu, acknowledged the Muslim community’s efforts in acquiring land and initiating the school project. He assured attendees of his commitment to advocating for the project’s completion, highlighting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s dedication to fulfilling its promises.
‘The President made a promise to reduce the Hajj fees, and he has delivered. Likewise, we will make sure that this school project is completed for you,’ he assured.
The Eid-al-Fitr celebration marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide. As Muslims globally observed this significant occasion, the Chief Imam urged the Volta Muslim community to harness the celebration’s spirit to renew their commitment to peace, progress, and development.
