Wage negotiations to start as agreed in April 2018 (Taboubi)

The wage negotiations will start, as agreed, in April 2018, announced Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Noureddine Tabboubi who has also affirmed the increase of the guaranteed minimum wage (SMIG) and allocations for the needy families.

Speaking to reporters, on the sidelines of the opening on Monday in Hammamet, of the three-day works of the trade union federation of the department of women, active youth and associations, Taboubi added that the UGTT and the government agreed at a meeting this morning between the executive bureau of the workers’ organisation and a government delegation led by Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, to regularise the situation of the shipyard workers.

He added that a large part of this meeting, which he described as “frank and clear”, was devoted to the Tunisian tire industry company “STIP”, whose 900 workers have not received their salaries for five months.

Taboubi said that the issue of increasing the retirement age has not yet been resolved, reaffirming the UGTT’s position, which remains committed to sharing sacrifices.

Major investments will be made in the public school, according to Taboubi, who said that 2018 will be proclaimed “Year of Public School and Public Health” in view of the importance of these two sectors in the life of Tunisians, he said.

Besides, the UGTT Secretary-General said that strengthening the presence of women within the structures of the UGTT is an irreversible choice.
