TARKWA: A 30-year-old washing bay attendant from Booboobo in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has been sentenced to 20 years of hard labor for defiling a 14-year-old student in a nearby bush. The conviction was handed down by the Tarkwa Circuit Court after Richard Amissah, known locally as IGP, pleaded guilty to the charges with an explanation. According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecution, led by Police Sergeant Dominic Appiah Kusi, detailed the events leading to the conviction before the court presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu. The complainant, a hairdresser residing in Booboobo with the victim, who is her daughter, reported the crime. The incident occurred on September 7, 2024, when the victim was returning from delivering provisions to her elder sister at a Senior High School in Tarkwa. Sergeant Kusi informed the court that Amissah approached the victim under the pretext of asking for directions before forcibly dragging her into a bush to commit the act. Unsatisfied, Amissah reportedly took the vict im to another secluded area in Akoon, where he repeated the offense. The victim returned home in distress and recounted the incident to her mother, who subsequently filed a report with the Tarkwa Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU). The police issued a medical report form for the victim to receive treatment and verification at a hospital, and the form was returned duly endorsed by a medical officer. Amissah was arrested and confessed to the crime, pleading for forgiveness according to the prosecution's account. The court's ruling reflects the gravity of the offense, with the sentence emphasizing the severity of crimes of this nature.
