Water deficit in dams reaches 164 million m3

For the third consecutive year, Tunisia suffers from a water deficit estimated to 164 million m3 on May 15, 2018.

Water reserves in various dams of the country reached 1,056 million m3, i.e. 50% of the reception capacity of these structures, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

With the exception of the governorates of Jendouba and Bizerte as well as the south of the country, where rainfall was above average, most areas of the country suffered from a deficit in rainfall despite the slight improvement recorded especially over the past three months.

Tunisia, which often faces periods of drought, is experiencing increasing problems related to water supply becoming more frequent, including in the capital, especially during the summer season.
