Wave of fires in northwestern governorates under focus as Caid Essebsi meets Defence Minister

President Beji Caid Essebsi discussed on Wednesday with National Defence Minister Farhat Horchani the development of the fires that have erupted recently in several northwestern governorates.

After the meeting, Horchani said he had reviewed with the Head of the State the development of the general situation in the country, especially the fires that have hit northwestern governorates.

The Defence Minister reviewed the measures taken to bring the fires under control and support residents of the damaged regions and assess the material damage.

The President of the Republic commended the considerable effort made by the citizens, civil protection units, National Army, and different stakeholders to extinguish the fires and prevent any human loss.

The meeting also discussed the security situation in the country that has improved significantly, according to a Presidency press release.

It further helped review the progress of the installation of the electronic surveillance system over the southeastern borders that will be ready by the first half of 2018.

According to the same press release, the meeting also turned on the development of Tunisia’s co-operation with several brotherly and friendly countries in the military field, especially in countering terrorism.
