White Paper on agro-ecology in MENA region to be adopted soon

A White Paper on the adoption of a new approach in matters of agro-ecology in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region will be adopted at the end of a meeting organized on November 21-23 in Tunis by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) regional office, FAO said Tuesday in a press release.

This paper will be presented to the participating agriculture ministers of different countries in the forthcoming regional conference for the MENA region due in March 2018 in Lebanon, Co-ordinator of the FAO Sub-Regional Office for North Africa Michael Hage affirmed at the opening of the meeting.

Organic agriculture encourages resilient crops and helps maintain the good functioning of healthy eco-systems rather than being dependent to external inputs that are mainly chemical and synthetic pesticides, fertilisers and fossil fuels that have a very high energy, environmental and sanitary cost, according to FAO.
