Workers’ Party announces protest for January 14

The Workers’ Party said it will hold a protest on January 14, alongside the social democratic parties and independently of the Salvation Front and the Free Destourian Party (PDL).

It urged continue militant actions to achieve the objectives of the revolution.

Speaking at a press conference held the celebration of the 37th anniversary of the founding of the party Tuesday, its secretary general, Hamma Hammami stressed the need to close ranks and stand against the counter-revolutionaries.

Hamma Hammami pointed out that the rise of populism, represented by the President of the Republic has only worsened the situation at all levels.

The crisis will persist as long as the path of despotism and populism of the conservative right dominate the political scene. The solution for him lies in the departure of the whole system.

The secretary general of the Workers’ Party also emphasised the need to work to achieve the demands of Tunisians instead of making adjustments that will renew the same system.

The party totally refuses the salvation programmes that make the same choices which have led to the deterioration of the situation in the country, he argued.

On another level, Hamma Hammami expressed his full solidarity with those prosecuted on the basis of the decree No. 54, including activist Ayachi Hammami, head of the Salvation Front Ahmed Nejib Chebbi and Ridha Belhaj, leader in the Front.
