Workers’ Party: “Kais Saied tries to subjugate judiciary to establish his authoritarian project

The Workers’ Party denounced the “attempts of the President of the Republic Kais Saied, to subjugate the justice sector to implement his authoritarian project”, castigating the promulgation of a decree-law on the creation of a temporary Supreme Judicial Council.

“With the promulgation of this decree-law, the main lines of Saied’s authoritarian project are taking shape,” it warned in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the party, this decree-law is another pretext for foreign colonial forces to interfere again in the internal affairs of the country and create a climate conducive to imposing their diktats.

Undertaking reforms in the justice system and fighting all forms of corruption in the sector does not require a takeover of the judiciary, the party stressed.

“It would be better to enshrine its independence and allow the sector to free itself from instrumentalisation and manipulation by parties in power,” it added.
