Working session on transfer process of confiscated media institutions

The transfer process of two media institutions “Dar Assabah” and “Shems fm” radio as well as the radio station “Zitouana” were on the agenda of a working session held Friday at the government palace in Kasbah.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Prime Ministry and trade unions in the information sector: the Tunisian National Union of Journalists (SNJT) and the General Information Union of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT).

In this context, emphasis was placed on the criteria to be defined in a set of specifications in association with the Al-Karama holding group, the Prime Ministry, trade unions, and HAICA, Prime Minister’s adviser in charge of information Mofdi Mseddi told TAP on Friday.

A follow-up meeting will be held in ten days, he said, adding that the Al-Karama holding group (which is responsible for the management of confiscated assets, including Assabah, Zitouna and Shems FM) should sent a correspondence to the HAICA and submit proposals to it.

The session was attended by the CEOs of “Shems fm” and “Dar Assabah”, as well as the Director-General and the Secretary-General of the Al-Karama Holding Group, who made a presentation on the progress of the “disposal of these two establishments and their financial position.

A working session between the government and the union is due to be held next Monday to discuss the issue of social security coverage of “Shems fm” and “Zitouna fm” officers, said the same source.

An inner cabinet meeting was held in January 2017 and decided on the principle of transferring the confiscated media establishments (Dar Assabah and Shems fm).

On 14 January 2017, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed assured members of the SNJT at the union headquarters that the process of the confiscated settlements would be finalised before the end of September 2017.
