Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Mohamed Ennaceur stressed the importance of preserving the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, including, in the first place, the freedom of opinion, thought, expression, information and publishing.

Ennaceur affirmed, Thursday, on the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, the commitment of the Parliament to protect freedom of information, guarantee the safety of journalists and defend the right of access to information.

The HPR Speaker also said the celebration of this Day comes after the adoption of the law on access to information, urging the media professionals to perform their mission to the best in order to preserve freedom of the press and ensure the success of democratic transition in Tunisia.

“Tunisia today holds, in the opinion of the international organisations concerned, an advanced position at the Arab and international levels in defending and upholding freedom of information, he said, adding that the fight for freedom of information and the press continues.
