The Master International Film Festival (MIFF), inaugurated Saturday night at the Yasmine Hammamet resort, has rolled out the red carpet for its guests from Arab countries, Europe and Latin America.
The opening ceremony of this new film event held from June 4 to 11 in the tourist town of Hammamet, near Nabeul in Cape Bon, was attended by Minister of Cultural Affairs Hayet Ketat Guermazi.
A tribute was paid to Egyptian actress Leila Aloui and great Tunisian actor Raouf Ben Amor, said TAP correspondent in Nabeul.
MIFF organizers announced that access to the screenings is free for the duration of the Miff. Among the films on Sunday’s programme, a masterpiece of Egyptian cinema (Al Massir) by Youssef Chahine, screened in the presence of Leila Aloui.
In the MIFF line-up, some sixty films from 21 countries that have been awarded or nominated in major film events. These films are about a human cause.
The festival will award “The Golden Galleon” to the best films in the official competition composed of three sections of feature films, documentaries and short films.
Out of competition, the festival offers a selection of films in three sections; Cinema and Heritage, Cinema and Memory and Panorama.
The festival was created at the initiative of the company “Essalam” chaired by Ali Miaoui, a tourism company that manages the space of the Medina Yasmine Hammamet and three hotel units in this resort.
It is organized with the support of the Ministries of Cultural Affairs and Tourism and in partnership with several private sector institutions.
This new born cultural and tourism aims to boost cultural life in Yasmine Hammamet and make it a destination for international cinema.
