Marib: The Houthi group in Yemen reportedly shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in the country's eastern Marib Governorate, according to local media reports on Monday. Residents in the area heard loud explosions over Marib city, which were followed by the launch of an air defense missile from the Sarwah area west of the city. Two explosions were observed in the air shortly thereafter.
According to Anadolu Agency, local media outlets, including the Defense Line platform, reported that activists on social media circulated images that purportedly showed debris from the American drone and its missile payload scattered in a desert area east of the Wadi district. These images reportedly depicted at least two remnants of AGM-114R9X 'Ninja' missiles, a modified version of the Hellfire air-to-ground missile designed for precision strikes.
Defense Line confirmed that the wreckage belonged to a US MQ-9 Reaper drone, an unmanned aircraft utilized by the US for surveillance and counterterrorism operations in Yemen. However, there has been no comment from either the Houthis or the US military regarding the reported incident.
