Youth will help Africa take part in new digital world (Faouzi Abderrahmen)

“The African countries’ youth represent a factor of strength that will help the Continent take part in the new digital and technological world which is being prepared,” said Wednesday Training and Employment Minister Faouzi Abderrahmen.

In his remarks at the inaugural session of the African forum on the competences of youths and enterprises at the digital age, he pointed out that a quarter of humanity lives in Africa the majority of them are youths under 25 years old.

Abderrahmen underlined that the forum offers the opportunity for African countries to devise a joint strategy for the development of education and vocational systems across the African continent.

Works of the three-day African forum officially kicked off on Wednesday in Tunis, in the presence of a large number of Tunisian and African senior officials, education, employment and vocational training ministers as well as representatives of partners to development co-operation, the private sector, civil society and youths from over 11 African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Sudan, Rwanda and Egypt).

The different technical sessions of the forum will focus on ways of “exploiting the demographic dividend through investment in youth.”

The forum aims to develop youths’ leadership and digital skills and endow them with knowledge, tools and know-how to conceive marketable products and services and thus create sustainable businesses and jobs.

The inaugural session was also attended by Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology at the African Union Commission Sarah Anyang Agbor and South Africa Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Buti Manamela.
