Zaghouan: Towards developing management plan for groundwater in Nadhour-Saouaf

The Agricultural Development Commission in Zaghouan held on Wednesday a workshop on the management of the groundwater of Nadhour-Saouaf.

This workshop is part of the programme ” Development of the vision and strategy of the water sector in Tunisia ” initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

According to Yassine Mellouli, coordinator of the programme, this project concerns the governorates of Nabeul, Kebili, Mahdia and the region of Nadhour-Saouaf in Zaghouan which suffers from a serious crisis in underground water resources.

He said that climate change, the absence of rainfall for three consecutive years and the adoption of irrigated agriculture have contributed to the decline in groundwater.
