Zuarungu Paramount Chief Urges Government to Demarcate District Boundaries to Prevent Future Conflicts.

Zuarungu: Naba Bilea Namaal-Tinga Caeser A. Afegera III, the Paramount Chief of the Zuarungu Traditional Area, has appealed to the government for the urgent demarcation of boundaries between the Bolgatanga East District and the Talensi District. He emphasized that this step is crucial to resolving ongoing boundary disputes and ensuring peaceful coexistence among the residents of both districts. According to Ghana News Agency, the paramount chief highlighted the potential risks to peace if the boundary issues are not addressed promptly. He made these remarks during the N'daakoya festival, an annual celebration by the chiefs and people of Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region. The festival marks gratitude for a successful farming season and seeks blessings for the upcoming one, with this year's theme focusing on the role of residents and partners in Zuarungu's peace, security, and development. Naba Afegera III also urged the District Assembly to provide physical planning layouts fo r Zuarungu to avoid disorganized development and ensure the area remains accessible. He cautioned against the unauthorized sale of government lands by land institution staff, warning that such actions would face strong opposition. In response, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister, assured that the government is making significant progress in clarifying the district boundaries. He promised to inform the paramount chief and the community once the boundaries are finalized. Dr. Salih also called for calm ahead of the elections, stressing the importance of peace for sustainable community development.
