Ablekuma South Triumphs in AMA’s 125th Anniversary Quiz Competition

ACCRA — Ablekuma South schools, affiliated with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), secured the top spot in a competitive quiz marking AMA’s 125th anniversary.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ablekuma South schools achieved a winning score of 56.5 points. This score placed them ahead of their competitors, Okaikoi South, which scored 56.0 points, and Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan schools, which came in third with 37.5 points. The contest was designed to sharpen students’ creativity, critical thinking, and knowledge about the AMA’s history, sanitation practices, and current affairs relevant to Accra.

The event was supported by a consortium of sponsors, including EPP Books Services, Zenith University College, Matrix, Tesburys, Legon City Mall, Indomie Ghana, Zeeland Fun World, and Cocoa Processing Company Limited. These sponsors contributed to the goal of the quiz, which was not only to celebrate AMA’s history but also to expand the educational horizons of the children participating.

Mrs Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, speaking on the theme for the AMA’s 125th Anniversary, highlighted that the event underscored the rich heritage of local governance and the unwavering dedication to the populace’s advancement. She emphasized that the quiz offered students an outstanding platform to showcase their knowledge and to nurture a bond of commitment in the context of AMA’s commemorative festivities.

The contest also aimed to familiarize children with significant local issues and to identify and bolster schools within the metropolis that require support to meet educational benchmarks.

Mrs Justine Eva Appawu, the Accra Metro Director of the Ghana Education Service, praised the AMA Chief Executive for the inception of the quiz. She remarked that the initiative promises extensive benefits for all metropolitan schools by fostering educational involvement and strengthening community ties.

In recognition of their achievements, the victors and runners-up were presented with medals, reinforcing the event's commitment to learning and scholastic distinction.
