Accra: The Africa Diaspora Initiative (ADI) has announced the launch of an orientation certificate course for its highly anticipated Re-Africanization programme. This initiative aims to reconnect African Americans, Caribbeans, and other diasporans with their cultural and historical roots through a virtual course developed in partnership with the African University College of Communication (AUCC). According to Ghana News Agency, the orientation course will mark the first step in the Re-Africanization journey, allowing participants to explore Africa's rich history, with a focus on the transatlantic slave trade. Renowned African cultural and history scholars will guide participants, providing immersive lessons on heritage and ancestry. The programme seeks to offer a renewed sense of identity, inspired by Pan-Africanist Marcus Garvey's saying that a people without knowledge of their past are like a tree without roots. Dr. Kemi Wale-Olaitan, Vice President of AUCC, emphasized the College's commitment to bridging academics with real-life impact, aiming to equip graduates to meet modern demands. She highlighted the collaboration with ADI to make African history and heritage practical and impactful. Dr. Morufu Omigbule, a director at ADI, noted that participants will engage directly with African traditional institutions, learning about their ancestors' lives before slavery. Participants will have the option to travel to Ghana for a two-week immersive experience in July 2025, exploring historic sites, engaging in cultural exchanges, and gaining insights into ancestral customs. ADI is dedicated to fostering a cultural renaissance, empowering diasporans with a culturally relevant identity. The Re-Africanization programme includes partnerships with Ife Studies, African Chamber of Content Producers, and others, reflecting its broad collaborative approach. Participants can register for the orientation course at africad.org.
