Berekum Traders Call on Municipal Assembly to Hand-Over ‘Rawlings Market’

Berekum: Traders at the Berekum Rawlings Market in the Bono Region have called on the Berekum East Municipal Assembly to allow them to trade in the market. According to them, they were unable to access the market because of a pending court case, saying they were now selling along the streets, which was dangerous and inconvenient.

According to Ghana News Agency, speaking in an interview at Berekum, Mama Alice, a trader, expressed worry that the court case was over six years old, and urged the Municipal Assembly to intervene. Another trader, Ohene Kumi, expressed regret that some traders have been forced by the situation to sell at unauthorized places, creating nuisance in the municipality.

Sister Attaa, a market woman, said: 'Trading is our only source of economic livelihood and the assembly must come to our aid and hand over the market to us.'
