Cooperation Programme Between TAP and PAMT2 Concludes with Spotlight on Regional Journalism

Tunis: The cooperation programme between Tunis Afrique Presse agency (TAP) and the Media Support Programme for Tunisia (PAMT2) was formally concluded on Friday at a ceremony attended by representatives of the European programme, TAP senior officials, and information and communication officers from several ministries and public institutions. Under this cooperation initiative, TAP journalists and staff participated in multiple training sessions designed to build their professional capacities and took part in the Spotlight on Regions programme, which adopted a proximity-based journalistic approach. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, TAP CEO Najeh Missaoui pointed out that throughout the Spotlight on Regions programme, TAP teams had travelled across the country's various governorates, producing proximity journalism that effectively conveyed the citizens' concerns. Missaoui said that deploying teams of journalists and photojournalists to spotlight a single governorate over the course of a week had enabled diverse editorial angles and enriched the agency's daily news output. He underlined that the agency's published work under this programme had resonated with decision-makers, readers, and partner media outlets, many of whom had republished the content. He commended the professionalism and rigour of the journalistic teams, whose performance had been distinguished by sound organisation, effective coordination, and clear task allocation. He further indicated that the diversity of content and coverage of issues of public interest had fostered greater interaction between the agency and its readership, adding that all articles and special reports produced under the programme remain accessible via TAP's website. The CEO acknowledged the support provided by governors and regional and local authorities in facilitating the journalistic missions, and underscored the coordination efforts undertaken by the agency's general management to secure the necessary authorisations for their successful execution. Taking the floor, Head of the Editorial Department Mohamed Sfar explained that collaboration between TAP and PAMT2 had been structured around two principal axes: the first had focused on building the journalists' technical capacities in the use of modern technologies, while the second had addressed professional development, notably through the Spotlight on Regions programme. He added that this initiative stood out for its distinctive proximity journalism and its varied regional bulletins combining depth with professional standards. Sfar commended the agency's journalists and called for continued collective efforts to strengthen TAP's regional and international profile, affirming that TAP remains open to future cooperation with its partners on an equal-footing basis. For her part, PAMT2 Team Leader Virginie Jouan described the agency as an essential partner for the Media Support Programme for Tunisia, pointing out that the two entities had established a productive partnership, particularly through the Spotlight on Regions prog ramme as well as training sessions on media marketing and audiovisual production. She considered that the journalistic outputs had showcased Tunisia's rich and diverse natural heritage and tourism potential, commending the professionalism and rigour of TAP's journalistic teams in producing and disseminating content reflecting Tunisian current affairs in all sectors. She underlined that the programme had revealed the dedication and perseverance of journalists and photographers, specifying that the agency had successfully addressed themes of shared public interest, such as crafts, small enterprises, tourism, sustainable development, the environment, health and other sectors, through innovative video, multimedia and photographic content. The closing ceremony featured the announcement of results of the competition organised at the end of PAMT2. Three awards were presented to journalists distinguished by the quality of their work. The prize for best article published under the programme was awarded to Kilani S'h abou, journalist in the political and diplomatic desk, for his article entitled "Djerba, sacred geometry: Spirituality carved in lime", which explores the Ibadite mosques of Djerba island and their historical roles for local inhabitants. The award for best video report went to Mokhtar Ben Jediene, journalist in the multimedia desk, for his report "Wingless migrant", which recounts the plight of a flamingo afflicted with a rare neurological condition that moved residents of the Kneiss archipelago in the Sfax governorate. The prize for best photograph was awarded to photojournalist Malek Mahouachi for his image depicting children preparing to dive into the waters of Skhira port (Sfax governorate) near piles of plastic bottles, illustrating the dangers of plastic pollution to both humankind and nature.
