Twifo praso: Dr Juliette Dufie Otami, the Central Regional Director of Education, has urged parents and politicians to refrain from interfering with disciplinary actions taken by schools, emphasizing that such interference disrupts established disciplinary measures. She made these remarks during the 44th Anniversary and 4th Speech and Prize-Giving Day at Twifo Praso Senior High School, located in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Otami highlighted that intervention from parents and politicians undermines the authority of educational institutions and weakens their capacity to cultivate responsible future leaders. She pointed out that discipline should be viewed not as a form of punishment but as guidance that aligns young individuals with a moral compass, steering them towards responsible citizenship and productive adulthood.
Dr Otami appealed to educators, parents, and societal leaders to join forces in ensuring that schools are provided the necessary environment to nurture disciplined, responsible, and productive citizens. She expressed concern over the rising instances of examination malpractices in some schools, noting that these actions compromise examination integrity and harm students' futures by promoting shortcuts over hard work, honesty, and integrity.
Mr Daniel Kofi Aidoo, Headmaster of Twifo Praso Senior High School, spoke about the school's achievements across academics, sports, debate competitions, and cadet performances. Despite these successes, the school faces significant challenges, including a lack of a school bus, inadequate dormitories, classrooms, student beds, dining hall furniture, and a shortage of 116 computers for the 130 students enrolled in elective computing.
The headmaster appealed for government intervention to address these issues and requested that the school be included in the single-track system. He mentioned that the school currently has a population of approximately 2,587 students and 169 teaching and non-teaching staff.
