Accra: Ecobank Ghana has announced a significant investment of GHC 2.2 million in four educational institutions to enhance AI learning capabilities, marking this year's Ecobank Day, a part of its annual social impact initiative. This commitment is aimed at improving literacy, numeracy, and digital skills among students, leveraging the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, the investment underlines the bank's ongoing efforts to transform education through digital literacy. Ecobank Day, led by the Ecobank Foundation, is celebrated across 33 African countries where the bank operates, focusing on community engagement and development. This year's initiative, themed 'Ignite Learning through AI,' builds upon the previous year's digital literacy program that equipped 10,000 children with digital skills. Madam Emelia Atta-Fynn, representing the Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana at the announcement event, highlighted the transformative potential of AI in education. S he illustrated this by referencing AI tools like ChatGPT, which provide personalized learning experiences and tutoring. Madam Atta-Fynn emphasized that such technologies could democratize education, making high-quality educational resources accessible to all students and aiding teachers by automating administrative tasks. The initiative includes a partnership with Ghana Code Club and begins with providing Potter's Village in Dodowa with six months of free tuition in web development, animation, robotics, and AI. Similar support is extended to South Labone Girls Technical Institute in Accra. Plans are also underway to refurbish and equip ICT labs at Bishop Asua Catholic Basic School in Takoradi and 4 Garrison Educational Centre in Kumasi with digital centers and internet connectivity. The President of Potter's Village, Pastor Mrs. Nana Ama Adu Owusu, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the initiative not only enhances current educational standards but also prepares students for future technologic al advancements. She stressed the importance of this initiative in bridging educational gaps and providing children with the necessary tools to succeed in a digital world. Additionally, Deputy District Director for the Ghana Education Service in Dodowa, Mr. Gideon Maya, affirmed the district's support for integrating AI into education, recognizing its inclusion in the national curriculum. He praised Ecobank's leadership in promoting innovative educational methods that enhance learning and teaching dynamics. The initiative is part of Ecobank's broader commitment to social responsibility and community development, reflecting its dedication to creating lasting impacts in the regions it serves.
