Ennahdha Refutes Allegations of Involvement in Mornaguia Prison Break

Tunis, Tunisia - The Ennahdha movement has categorically denied any involvement in the recent escape of five terrorists from Mornaguia Civil Prison. The party's spokesperson, Imed Khemiri, made this statement during a press conference held on Monday.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the Ennahdha party is committed to taking legal action against anyone who has levied these "groundless" accusations against them. He emphasized that the apprehension and imprisonment of these terrorists occurred under Ennahdha's governance, a period he described as marked by significant security achievements against terrorism in Tunisia.

Khemiri raised concerns about the security apparatus's capacity to counter terrorist threats, reflected in the detainees' escape. He stressed that authorities must fully disclose the truth about the incident to the public. The spokesperson also criticized the current ruling power for allegedly attacking opponents of the July 25 process as a distraction from the real issues facing Tunisia.

Pointing to the challenges confronting the nation, Khemiri remarked that Tunisia is heading in the wrong direction, with successive governments since July 25, 2021, failing to resolve various crises. Additionally, he called for the release of political detainees, arguing that the trials against them are based on "empty files." This stance highlights Ennahdha's position on the current political landscape and its commitment to countering accusations against its involvement in security lapses.
