AGOGO: The Erudite Women's Empowerment Foundation (EWEF) marked the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child by engaging female students from Agogo State and Collins Senior High Schools in a seminar aimed at overcoming inequality barriers. The event focused on boosting the confidence of the students and encouraging them to realize their potential through education. According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Constance Ohenewaa Ankoma, the Executive Director of EWEF, delivered the opening address at the seminar. She highlighted the foundation's commitment to recognizing the achievements of girls and acknowledging their immense potentials. "The theme for this year's celebration is 'Girls' Vision for the Future,' which underscores the significance of creating opportunities and dismantling persistent barriers of inequality," said Ankoma. She emphasized the foundation's role in amplifying the voices of girls and young women, ensuring their safety, and providing them with the necessary tools and resources to thrive. The event also marked a part of the "She Lead" Project, implemented by a consortium of five organizations with a strategic objective to increase the sustained influence of girls and young women on decision-making and the transformation of gender norms in both formal and informal institutions. Over the past seven years, more than 5,000 girls have benefited from the transformative programs conducted by EWEF in collaboration with various organizations and individuals in the Asante-Akim area. Ms. Tanya Morgan Dixon, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GirlTrek USA, also addressed the students, stressing the importance of self-belief. "You cannot achieve what you do not believe in," Dixon told the assembly, sharing stories of women who made significant impacts in their communities as teenagers. The event not only commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child but also served as a call to action to create pathways of opportunities for young women and to address the challenges they face in society today.
