Fire Erupts on Cameroonian-Flagged Ship Near Yemen After Explosion

Aden: An explosion sparked a fire on a ship off the coast of Yemen, the European Union's Aspides mission in the Red Sea reported. The incident occurred as the vessel was traveling southeast of Yemen's port of Aden, en route to Djibouti.

According to Ghana News Agency, the cause of the fire remains unknown, though initial signs point to an accidental origin. The ship, flying under a Cameroonian flag, experienced the explosion on Saturday morning. Of the 26 crew members, 24 have disembarked, with one person still on board and another unaccounted for.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations, a British authority overseeing merchant shipping safety, had earlier indicated that the ship was struck by a projectile, resulting in the fire. This incident follows previous attacks by Yemen's Houthi militia on vessels suspected of having ties to Israel during the Gaza war two years ago.

Despite the recent ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant Hamas movement, the Houthi militia has not made any claims regarding new attacks, nor have they commented on the current incident.
