France Marks Tenth Anniversary of Deadly Nice Terror Attack

Nice: French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday attended a solemn ceremony in Nice to mark the tenth anniversary of the July 14, 2016, terror attack on the city's Promenade des Anglais, which killed 86 people and injured more than 400. According to France24.com, later Tuesday, the French national football team will hold a minute of silence ahead of the France-Spain World Cup 2026 semi-final in Dallas, Texas. In a post on X, Macron expressed gratitude to FIFA's president for accommodating France's request for a minute's silence in commemoration of the tragic event. Macron stated, "Before France-Spain, a minute of silence will be observed in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016," thanking FIFA president Gianni Infantino for his support. "Thank you to the President of FIFA for responding to the request of France and of all French people who have mobilised. We will never forget." The attack, carried out by Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Tunisian national, occurred exactly te n years ago when he drove a truck through crowds celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French city. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attack. Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was shot dead by police at the scene.
