Ningo-Prampram – Mr. John Mantse Akwetey, a candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary for Ningo-Prampram, has laid out a comprehensive seven-point agenda aimed at revitalizing the constituency and bolstering his campaign for the 2024 general election. Mr. Akwetey is competing with two other aspirants for the opportunity to represent the NPP in the upcoming elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akwetey's ambitious agenda encompasses a range of initiatives designed to engage and empower various segments of the constituency. Central to his plan is the empowerment of electoral area coordinators and polling station executives. He intends to establish dedicated offices in each electoral area, where these officers can actively engage with party members, listen to their concerns, and incorporate their contributions.
Mr. Akwetey further detailed his strategy to place these coordinators and executives at the forefront of the political campaign, acknowledging their invaluable grassroots efforts. Another significant aspect of his agenda is the launch of a job profile database for party delegates, categorized into job seekers, artisans, and student interns. This initiative aims to assist job seekers in finding employment, promote skilled tradespeople, and offer internship opportunities to facilitate students' educational and career growth.
Addressing the needs of the youth, Mr. Akwetey plans to rebrand and reposition the party to focus on issues pertinent to young people. Engaging with them through social media, town hall meetings, and youth-led initiatives is part of his strategy to ensure their voices are heard in the party's decision-making processes.
Additionally, Mr. Akwetey proposed the launch of the Needy Constituents Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships and support for higher education and vocational training for deserving individuals in the constituency. In an effort to foster community unity and strengthen the party's purpose, he also plans to introduce inter-electoral area fun games and cooking competitions.
Recognizing the contributions of long-serving party members, Mr. Akwetey intends to establish an award scheme to honor their dedication to the party's growth in the constituency. His background includes serving as the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana TVET Service, polling station secretary, electoral area coordinator, and Communications Director for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency. He also played a significant role in the IT strongroom at the NPP's national headquarters during the 2016 and 2020 elections and vied for the Greater Accra Region's Council of State member slot in 2021.
