The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) Chairperson, Mr Mkhuleko Hlengwa and a delegation of members of the committee will participate in the South African Association of Public Accounts Committees (SAAPAC) Executive Committee and Council of Delegates (CoD) meeting on Friday, 15 July 2023 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province.
Members of the committee that will attend the meeting include Mr Bheki Hadebe, Mr Sakhumzi Somyo and Ms Benedicta Van Minnen. Mr Hlengwa, Mr Somyo and Ms Van Minnen are CoD members of the SAAPAC and Mr Hadebe is an EXCO member of the SAAPAC.
The SAAPAC was formed in 1997 to provide a platform for members of Public Accounts Committees in all legislatures in South Africa to enter into dialogue and share best practices. It is a professional body committed to capacity building and development of members of Public Accounts committees in order to assist them to fulfil their role effectively and SCOPA is affiliated to it.
The EXCO meeting will receive a briefing from the Southern African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) General Council on the SAAPAC preparations to host the 15th Annual Conference and the 19th Annual General Meeting of the SADCOPAC in October 2023.
The EXCO meeting will also consider the draft report of the SAAPAC AGM and conference which were held in August 2022, the revised draft constitution of the SAAPAC, and hosting of the SADCOPAC Conference in South Africa in 2023.
