NCCE Organizes Peace Walk in Wa Ahead of 2024 Election.


According to Ghana News Agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, the participants displayed placards with messages such as ‘Election is all about development and not violence’; ‘Avoid the spread of fake news’; ‘We need each other for better Ghana’; and ‘Distance yourself from misinformation and disinformation’. Following the walk, Mr. Nurideen Mumuni, the Wa Municipal Director of NCCE, addressed the participants, urging candidates to refrain from vote buying, emphasizing its illegality and the legal consequences when caught.

Mr. Mumuni also advised the electorate against exchanging their votes for money and spreading misinformation, highlighting that these actions violate Ghanaian law. He noted that the exercise aimed to provide an opportunity for members of various political parties to interact and foster unity, rather than viewing those with differing opinions as adversaries.

He stressed that elections should focus on a country’s development and that campaigns should address issues, remarking, ‘We are fighti
ng for the interest of the people we seek to represent.’ Mr. Mumuni also urged vigilance against violent extremism, advising the public to report suspicious individuals and activities to security agencies promptly.

He remarked, ‘As we are about to go into the election, foreigners will come in, and as they come, we should try to watch out for suspicious characters and observe the activities and movements of those we live with. With that we can identify and report any unusual person or action to the security agencies so they can fish them out for Ghana to remain peaceful,’ Mr. Mumuni said. He encouraged individuals to take personal responsibility for security, noting that peace and security are shared responsibilities.

Political party representatives at the walk committed to maintaining peace before, during, and after the election. Before the peace walk, the NCCE engaged with faith-based and identifiable groups in the Wa Municipality, emphasizing the importance of tolerance and peaceful coexistence throughout
the electoral process.
